Dr. Funda Karbek Akarca graduated as an Emergency Medicine Specialist from the Department of Emergency Medicine at Dokuz Eylül University in 2005. She worked as an emergency medicine specialist at İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital between 2006 and 2010. In 2010, she joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, where she has been serving as a faculty member since then. She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2017. Dr. Akarca is a founding member of the Ultrasonography Working Group of the Emergency Medicine Association of Türkiye (EMAT) and served as its chair for two consecutive terms. She is also actively involved as an instructor in the Disaster Medicine and Critical Care Working Groups of EMAT. Following the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye, she voluntarily worked at Mustafa Kemal University in Hatay. In the post-disaster period, she coordinated the “Psychological Support Project for Emergency Department Staff” in the affected region for one year on behalf of the Turkish Emergency Medicine Association. She is also the coordinator of the “EMAT Disaster School Project.” Dr. Akarca is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Emergency Medicine Association of Türkiye and serves as Vice President during the current term. Her main areas of interest include emergency ultrasonography, critical patient management, disaster medicine, and forensic emergencies.
